KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE WHO

Are you sick and tired of doing wrong and promising yourself you’re going to do right?

It’s a familiar cycle—sin, sadness, regret, renewed resolve… a brief moment of relief, and then sin again.
We don’t do holiness very well. And after enough failures, hypocrisy stops feeling like rebellion and starts feeling like survival.

So we ask the obvious questions:
What can I do differently?
How can I finally change?

But that may be the wrong question.

Life is nondiscriminatory.
You will experience seasons of wheat—opportunity, growth, momentum.
You will also battle busy bugs and noxious weeds—temptation, disappointment, setbacks, and suffering.

Life is a seesaw. You’re up, then you’re down.

The apostle Paul knew this rhythm well. In Romans 7, worn down by his own struggle, he cries out:

“What a wretched man I am!
Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?” (Romans 7:24)

Paul doesn’t ask for a system.
He doesn’t ask for a method.
He asks for a Person.

The answer comes immediately:

“Thanks be to God—who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:25)

Paul doesn’t fix his struggle.
He names his Savior.

Once Christ is named, everything changes.

Romans 8 becomes a chorus of confidence:
    •    “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
    •    “Who will bring any charge against us?”
    •    “Who is the one who condemns?”
    •    “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”

Deliverance is not a technique.
Freedom is not a method.
Salvation is not self-improvement.

You are not strong enough to undo what Christ has done.
Not circumstances.
Not suffering.
Not even you.

The question that saves isn’t what can I do?
It’s Who holds me?

And the answer still stands:

Jesus Christ our Lord.

Keep your eyes on the WHO.
