Surround Yourself with Good People
Surround Yourself with Good People
“Success comes from a collection of relationships,” my friend Dal used to say. The Apostle Paul echoed a similar truth: “Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Corinthians 15:33). Who we surround ourselves with matters—immensely.
That’s why I encouraged my children to create their own board of directors—not just cheerleaders, but people who speak truth with love. Paul modeled this in his letters, often naming those who walked closely with him: Timothy, a faithful mentee; Epaphras, a strong and humble church planter; John Mark, who bounced back from early failure; Aristarchus, a loyal companion in chaos; and Demas, whose story serves as a cautionary tale.
With over 8 billion people in the world, we’re all navigating relationships. So build wisely. As Scott Peck observed, teams don’t become great overnight—they move from polite “pseudo-community” through chaos to genuine connection. That journey requires humility, honesty, and time.
True community forms when people choose growth over ego. The right people around you won’t just shape your success—they’ll shape your soul. And when that happens, generations are blessed.
Surround yourself with the best, and watch what God can do.
Strong Blessings,
Cedric
