Great at Receiving Grace—but Poor at Giving It?

Let’s be mature. Let’s embrace where we are. As Paul said, “By the grace of God I am what I am” (1 Corinthians 15:10). Not all of us are at the same point when it comes to grace.

Please hear me out: Head knowledge of grace without heart experience gives a false sense of understanding grace’s power. You can be around grace, learn about grace, and even teach grace—and still struggle to actually give it.

Jonah knew God was gracious. He even said, “I knew you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love” (Jonah 4:2). Yet he ran 2,500 miles in the opposite direction of Nineveh. Jonah had headgrace but lacked behavioral grace—grace in action.

Or look at the unmerciful servant in Matthew 18. He was forgiven an impossible debt—ten thousand bags of gold! Yet he refused to forgive a fellow servant who owed him just three months’ wages. He was great at receiving grace but poor at giving it.

The grace that flows to us through Jesus is meant to flow through us to others.
Shouldn’t grace give grace?
Shouldn’t forgiveness give forgiveness?
Freely you have received; freely give (Matthew 10:8).

Let’s not stop at receiving grace. Let’s become people who live it, give it, and embody it.

Strong blessings,
Cedric
