You Can’t Quit
“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29).
If you’ve given your life to Jesus Christ, you're securely saved. I know a lot of wrestling goes on in the middle between our failures and God’s faithfulness, but we can be assured He who began this race will complete it. God didn't get us started and leave it to us. The Psalmist said, “May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth” (Psalm 67:4). The Lord got this world started, sustains it, and He’ll be the One who ends it.
Whether you want to quit or not, you cant. We cant be separated from God’s security. He's guiding the whole earth, not you. Let me be more specific. The Greek word ametameleta means not subject to regret, reversal, or withdrawal. God does not give gifts like a lender who might repossess them when payments are missed. God gives us automobiles knowing we are going to miss payments. He saves us knowing Peter would deny Him or Jonah would run away. God’s decisions are not reactionary. He does not discover new information after He calls you.
These are three great chapters in Romans where God made His irrevocable choices. He chose Jacob over Esau. He chose a remnant of Jews, and He saved Gentiles to make the Jews jealous to win more of them.
Salvation is personal and private to God. The word translated “calling” is klēsis), from the verb kaleō—to call aloud, to summon by name. This is not a vague sense of destiny or inner potential. It is personal, intentional, and initiated by God.
In Scripture, klēsis always emphasizes God’s action, not human response (Romans 8:30). You don’t generate a calling; you receive one. You don’t apply for it; you are summoned into it.
And please remember this: your calling is not suspended when you struggle. It is not voided by weakness. It may be clarified, refined, or redirected—but it is not revoked.
If you’ve been saved, your God-initiated calling is irreversible and you cant quit.
Grace to you,
Cedric
