Games People Play

Gaming is massive. Bigger than music. Bigger than movies. Over two billion people across the world play games—26% of humanity. Like it or not, we are gamers.

But Jesus once warned His disciples about a darker game: the scapegoat game. He said,

“They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.” (John 16:2)

The religious leaders would justify killing the disciples, thinking it holy. In reality, they were scapegoating them for Jesus’ death.

Jonah did the same thing with Nineveh. Adam did it with Eve. Humanity has always played this game: find someone worse, blame them, and walk away feeling better. It’s the oldest “power move” in the book—play the victim to avoid change.

But God never plays that way.
    •    The scapegoat ritual in Leviticus 16 pointed forward to Christ.
    •    History is full of people shifting blame to others—whether in lynchings, genocide, or prejudice.
    •    Yet Jesus, the true Victim, absorbed all the world’s sins without passing blame.

The good news? The game is over. In Jesus, there’s no need for scapegoats, no need to hide, no need to blame. He took it all—so we can be free, healed, and transformed.

“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” (John 3:16)
