God’s Radical Concern for You

“And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left – and also many animals.” — Jonah 4:11

Here’s the truth: God isn’t sitting around waiting for you to “get it together.” He doesn’t say, “Come back when you’re perfect, then I’ll love you.” No way. Love is already in the air. God first loved us (1 John 4:7)—before we were ready, before we even knew we needed it.

Think about it: He goes after backsliders, stubborn believers, even people we’d call hopeless. He moves heaven and earth for a pouting prophet and a city full of sinners. Why? Because He cares. His concern is real, active, and unstoppable. Jonah 4:11 makes it crystal clear:
“And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh?”

That word concern isn’t casual. It’s deep care, empathy, compassion. God doesn’t just give advice from a distance. He weeps, He intervenes, He joins us in our struggles (John 1:14). He’s not waiting for you to “fix yourself” because, truthfully, none of us ever fully will (Romans 3:11).

And His rescue plan? Epic.
    •    He stirred up the sea to wake Jonah.
    •    He let the lots point to Jonah.
    •    He sent a massive fish to save him.
    •    He shaded him with a plant and then destroyed it to teach him.

God is not distant. He’s not afraid of the mess. He’s in it with us, every step, every storm, every heartbreak.

I’ve seen this in real life:
    •    At the deathbed of parents, God’s peace showed up.
    •    In messy divorces, His grace brought healing.
    •    In prisons, hardened hearts chose forgiveness and reconciliation.
    •    And personally, His love pulled me from self-rejection into total acceptance.
