Grace for Runners and Rebels

“The word of the Lord came to Jonah, son of Amittai: ‘Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.’”
— Jonah 1:1–2

We’ve all got a little Jonah and a little Nineveh in us. Jonah ran from God, Nineveh rebelled against Him—and both desperately needed grace.

Paul said, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst” (1 Timothy 1:15). He didn’t say I was. He said I am. Why? Because seeing our sin keeps us open to God’s mercy. Denying sin only delays healing, but admitting it makes us candidates for amazing grace.

The Jonah in Us
Jonah went west when God called him east. He didn’t need God to love him more—he already had that. What Jonah needed was to grow, to mature, to trust God enough to stop running. And so do we.

The Nineveh in Us
Nineveh was brutal, violent, and proud. Yet when they humbled themselves, God forgave them. Their weakness became the doorway to His strength. Their bottom became the beginning of a brand-new story.

The Good News
Whether runner or rebel, prophet or prodigal, God’s grace is enough. Some of us need restoration; others need rescue. Some need maturity; others need a miracle. But all of us need grace.

And here’s the hope: God can redeem bad choices, and one good decision—today—can rewrite your future. The question is simple: will you keep running, or will you return?
