Don’t Wait Until the End to Figure This Out

God has given you a good life—don’t wait until you’re in the last quarter of it to realize that. Not everyone was given this chance. Life isn’t something you just get; it’s something God has graciously allowed you to experience.

Stop chasing expectations and approval from others just to live. I often read the reflections of hospice workers who share what their patients regret most in their final days. Again and again, one sorrow surfaces: not being themselves. What a tragedy. As singer India Arie once said, “Your real job in the world is to be you.” To be anyone else is self-betrayal.

God has gifted you with this benevolent universe—filled with stars, colors, nature, animals, and people. Stop resisting life’s problems and open yourself up to living. Release that part of you that keeps holding you back.

King Solomon put it best: “God has given riches and wealth, and given power to eat of it … this is the gift from God.” A gift is an allotment, a portion, a piece of real estate meant just for you. Don’t waste time looking around at what others have. Embrace your own portion. Align with your talents, smarts, beauty, goodness, and smiles. And thank God for the rare privilege of participating in life.

This is your time—so don’t say I didn’t tell you so. Truly, light is sweet, and it is a pleasant thing for the eyes to behold the sun.
