It Really Isn’t About You

God is the Great Romancer, uniquely drawing each of us to Himself through our differences and diversity—Moses and Israel, Ruth and Boaz, Jonah and the Ninevites, the Woman at the Well and the Samaritans, Peter and Paul, and yes, you and me. Our differences don’t diminish God’s work; they display His variety, His range, and His limitless grace.

From the beginning, God has crossed lines and broken barriers—whether it was a wedding feast and a pious Pharisee, a lame man at a pool and a hungry crowd, or an adulterous woman and a blind man, whether from the hood or from Hollywood. This is God’s solidarity at work, His harmony with all people for the good of all.

Paul captured this spirit in 1 Corinthians: “Though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more” (9:19). It’s about the Other. It really isn’t about you.

God calls us into solidarity with creation, reminding us that He is a team-God. Ego destroys community, but the Trinity models family—where everyone belongs, everyone has access, and everyone is fed.

So, will we join Him and Paul in carrying on the legacy—that everybody is welcome at the table, no matter who you are or where you’re from?

Grace to you,
Cedric
