Games People Play

Gaming is massive. Bigger than music. Bigger than movies. Over two billion people worldwide play games—about 26% of humanity. Like it or not, we are gamers.

But Jesus warned His disciples about a darker game—the scapegoat game.

“They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.” (John 16:2)

Why such harsh words? Because scapegoating—finding someone to blame, someone “worse,” and casting them out—feeds our illusion of justice. The religious leaders thought killing the disciples was holy. In reality, they were scapegoating them for Jesus’ death.

Jonah did the same thing with Nineveh. Adam did it with Eve. Humanity has always played this game: find someone worse, blame them, and walk away feeling better. It’s the oldest “power move” in the book—play the victim to avoid change.

But here’s the good news: God never plays that way.
    •    The scapegoat ritual in Leviticus 16 pointed forward to Christ.
    •    History is full of scapegoating—lynchings, genocide, prejudice.
    •    Yet Jesus, the true Victim, absorbed the sins of the world without passing blame.

In Him, the game is over. Blame, shame, and division lose their power. You are no longer a victim of old games. Don’t take false moral high ground just to attack others. Christ offers freedom, healing, and new beginnings—right now, for you.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” (John 3:16)
