Money and Soul — Part 3

Anchor Passage: 1 Timothy 6:17–19

Paul, the seasoned mentor, offered Timothy timeless wisdom for the rich and the restless:

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” — 1 Timothy 6:17–18

Paul didn’t condemn wealth — he reframed it.
Wealth isn’t evil, but when it becomes our identity, it enslaves the soul.
True prosperity is not measured by accumulation but by circulation — the flow of generosity.
Money makes a poor master but a powerful servant when it’s surrendered to grace.

Lynne Twist, author of The Soul of Money, wrote:

“Money itself isn’t evil or good — it’s a mirror. It reflects our deepest intentions and values.”

If greed is rooted in fear — “there won’t be enough” — then generosity is an act of faith — “God will provide.”
Every time we give, we shift the power dynamic from anxiety to trust, from scarcity to sufficiency.

The kingdom economy runs on this sacred law: what you give multiplies.
When the boy gave up his lunch, thousands were fed.
When the widow dropped her two coins, heaven noticed.
When Zacchaeus opened his purse, salvation entered his house.

Here’s the long and short of it: In a world obsessed with money, it’s vital to deepen our relationship with the soul and bring it to bear on our relationship with wealth. Money is too strong for us to handle apart from the greater influence of the soul.
When soul leads, money serves.

We are never more like God than when we give.
