Everything Is a Gift

Once you understand grace beyond the boundaries of religion and see it woven into all of life, you realize: I’ve been gifted everything. I wasn’t entitled to be born. I didn’t earn the right to have parents, breath, or another sunrise. Everything — from the mundane to the miraculous — is gift.

Grace isn’t something God occasionally hands out; it’s the very air we breathe.

Word Study: Grace in Hebrew and Greek
    •    ḥēn (חֵן) – favor, grace, kindness: a king bending low to lift up the undeserving.
    •    charis (χάρις) – unearned gift, joy-bringing grace: a gift that transforms from within.

Together, they paint a breathtaking picture: grace is both God’s posture toward us and God’s power at work within us. He stoops to serve and enters to transform.

A New Way to See

When we truly see that all is gift — our breath, our story, even our scars — we stop striving and start receiving. Gratitude replaces grasping. Humility displaces pride. And instead of living with clenched fists, we open our hands to give as freely as we’ve received.

“How can one receive an ocean of grace and not pay it forward?” Jesus said,

“Freely you have received, freely give.” — Matthew 10:8

What we inhale, we exhale. Grace gives grace. As Kyle Idleman calls it, this is The Grace Effect. Max Lucado puts it another way: “Receiving grace today? Liberality is in the forecast for tomorrow.” If grace truly flows into us, it must flow through us.
