Image Bearer
Genesis 1:26 — “Let Us make mankind in Our image, in Our likeness…”
God is our Father, and men are made in His image. We are image bearers—carriers of His character, courage, strength, and purpose.
Before creation took shape, Scripture says, “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” (Genesis 1:2). Chaos everywhere. Darkness everywhere. Nothing working. Nothing in order.
And into that bleak scene, our Father spoke:
“Let there be light.”
And there was light—light that pushed back darkness and separated day from night. God moved creation from chaos to beauty, from disorder to design, from emptiness to meaning.
No wonder Jesus cried out to His Father in His agony at Calvary:
“Father, forgive them…”
“Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.” (Luke 23:34, 46)
He loved His Father, and His Father loved Him. Only the Father—the Image Giver—could empower Jesus with such courage and clarity to walk through the thick darkness of Good Friday and burst into the bright dawn of Easter Sunday.
Jesus is the perfect image bearer. He stepped into disorder and created life. He stepped into darkness and turned on the light. He stepped into broken humanity and brought healing, hope, and redemption.
And men—He calls us to do the same.
We are made in His image.
We are called to carry His story.
We are commissioned to step into the darkness of our age—
into politics, addiction, mass incarceration, violence, poverty, mental illness, fatherlessness, division—and speak light… order… and hope.
We are the Imago Dei on earth—God’s likeness expressed through:
• Function: providing order, dignity, protection, and direction.
• Relationship: mirroring His love, compassion, integrity, and joy.
We are the acme of creation—the crown of God’s creative work. Why wouldn’t we reflect Him in the way we work, lead, love, serve, and show up in the world?
Yet so many men have lost their way.
Like young Simba in The Lion King, they’ve run from responsibility… hidden behind silence… buried themselves in anger… numbed their souls with fantasy.
But the Father is still calling—patiently, lovingly, persistently:
“Come out of hiding.
Step into the darkness.
Turn on the light.”
You are an image bearer.
You are God’s representative on earth.
You were made to stand, to speak, to create, to bless, to shine.
Grace to you,
Cedric
