The Old Owner Has No Keys

Romans 6:11 — “Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

Everybody in the neighborhood knows this is a different house from the past owner.

At one time, the place was peeling paint, broken windows, and weeds tall enough to hide a bicycle. For years it sat empty—attracting stray cats, shadows, and stories. But today, the house has been renovated from top to bottom: new roof, new windows, new floors, and fresh paint. The new owner even transformed the yard, planted flowers, trimmed trees, and put a bright red door on the front. Now the whole neighborhood stops and stares. The house has never looked so alive.

But here’s the strange part:

Every morning, the former owner—the man who lost the house years ago—still shows up.
He tries the gate.
He peeks through the windows.
Some mornings he even bangs on the front door hard enough to rattle the frame.

The new owner and the neighbors wonder why he keeps coming back.

Likewise, sin keeps returning to the house God has already renovated.
Sin has no title deed.
Sin has no legal rights.
Sin has no authority and—hear me clearly—sin has no keys.

Stop treating the old owner like he still has access to the property.
You don’t owe him an explanation.
You don’t owe him obedience.
You don’t owe him attention.
You don’t even owe him a conversation.

You are under new management now.
Grace is your Supervisor.
Christ is your Landlord.
The Holy Spirit is your Security System.

You are alive to God.

The new Owner—Christ—has turned the lights on inside you.
He rebuilt the foundation.
He restored what was broken.
He planted new life in old soil.
He removed the rot, patched the cracks, and revived what everyone else thought was beyond repair.

To be alive to God means:
    •    You respond to His voice
    •    You desire what He desires
    •    You feel His tug toward goodness
    •    You sense His presence in every room of your soul

The house is His now.
The life is His now.
And He’s not giving it back.

So when the old owner shows up trying the doorknob—just smile.
It’s not his home anymore.

Grace to you,
Cedric
