What Are You Doing With Your Wound(s)?

If you’re a son or daughter of Adam and Eve, you have wounds. I’ve never met a person who hasn’t been marked—scars, injuries, hidden bruises that shape us. Whether we want to admit it or not, wounds are our human tags. A traumatic childhood, an ugly divorce, long seasons of sickness, betrayal, abandonment—Job wasn’t lying when he said that our days are full of trouble.

Even the Lord Himself was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities—scarred, bleeding, humiliated, rejected (Isaiah 53:5). He entered our brokenness head-on.

John Eldredge in Wild at Heart talks about “the father-wound”—the injuries men receive from the men who raised them. Some boys were mocked, shamed, belittled, ignored, abandoned, or dominated. The wound settles deep, shaping how we see ourselves and how we show up in the world.

John Bradshaw, in Homecoming and On the Family, would say many of us never received our “narcissistic supplies”—the emotional nutrients every child needs: mirroring, delight, protection, affirmation, and empathy. Our parents, often trapped in their own unresolved pain, couldn’t give what they didn’t receive. So we grew up hungry—craving love, acceptance, joy, and significance—and now as adults we chase these unmet needs in all kinds of places. Most times, we end up with new wounds on top of the old ones.

So here’s the real question: Where are you going for healing and hope?

David finally surrendered. He said, “When I kept silent, my bones grew old” (Psalm 32:3). He tried hiding—tried pretending, numbing, pushing through—but secrecy only deepened the shame. Silence only made the wound fester.

Confession was his doorway to freedom.

Read Psalm 51 slowly. Watch David move from secrecy to salvation… from internal collapse to internal cleansing… from the heaviness of guilt to the lightness of joy. It is the journey every wounded person must take: honest confession, openhearted surrender, and the courage to let God touch the painful places.

The question still stands:

What are you doing with your wound?
Hiding it?
Numbing it?
Or bringing it to the only One who heals?

Grace to you,
Cedric
